Lumina is now a licensed EMI in the EEA

What our e-money license means for your funds, and what changes (nothing, for you).

By Lena Moreau · Risk & compliance

As of this month, Lumina Financial Technologies Oy holds an Electronic Money Institution license, supervised by the Finnish Financial Supervisory Authority and passported across the EEA.

In practice it means customer funds are safeguarded in segregated accounts, held apart from our operating capital, and protected if anything ever happened to us. It means we can issue IBANs and hold balances in our own right rather than through a sponsor bank. And for you, day to day, it changes nothing: the same API, the same rates, the same dashboard.

The license is the unglamorous foundation under the instant settlement rail and the multi-currency accounts. It is the part of financial infrastructure you should never have to think about — which is exactly the point.
